Question : I am almost 48 and haven't had a period in almost 2 years. I have been experiencing pale pink and dark brown spotting for a few months, along with cramping. I went to GYN 2 1/2 months ago and had a transvaginal ultrasound (10 mm thickness, but doc said i have an large uterus), pap, and endometrial biopsy. Doctor call and said results were negative, but pale pink watery discharge, dark brown discharge, and cramping continues. I am obese and have a very strong family history of colon cancer (both sides of family), and ovarian cancer. I have had 3 colonoscopys since 2008 all with polyps removed. Should I follow up even with negative results from endo biopsy and if so, what should I discuss with my gyn regarding testing? thank you!

Brief Answer:
Repeat endometrial bx required to R/O hyperplasia

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
A 10 mm endometrium during menopause is inappropriate.
Pale pink and dark colored discharge after onset of menopause suggests post-menopausal bleeding.
Although the endometrial biopsy and Pap test were negative 2 and half month back, I suggest you to get an endometrial biopsy again.
Hyperplasia of endometrium has to be ruled out because it is a pre-cursor of endometrial cancer.
Pap test can also be repeated after 4 months (You can take the pap test once in 6 months).
A history of colon cancer precludes regular colonoscopy for development of polyps.

If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.
