Brief Answer:
Wife testing also recommneded

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

IgM positivity and IgG positivity indicates recent infection. This result cannot be explained by your sexual encounter with another woman 6 months ago.

I would also suggest testing for your wife too, to know the status of your partner.

You could get tested for both HSV Type 1 and Type 2 separately, to determine whether it is type 1 or type 2 HSV.

Brief Answer:
Get your wife tested too

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

By recent infection I mean, within a month or so as IgM becomes negative about a month after infection, when IgG usually becomes detectable.

It is not a life threatening infection, therefore no need to panic.

Kindly get your wife tested too.

Brief Answer:
Herpes infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Both Herpes simplex viruses HSV1 and HSV2 are transmitted by direct mucosal or cutaneo-mucosal contact between individuals. HSV1 is the leading cause of orofacial herpes and HSV2 the most frequently encountered cause of genital herpes. Recurrent asymptomatic viral shedding accounts for most of the oral and sexual transmissions of herpes simplex infections (HSV).

Therefore, avoid direct cutaneo-oral contact with your baby (e.g during kissing on lips and the mouth area) specially during an episode of active herpes labialis/oral sores. Because the survival of HSV out of the oral-genital secretions is weak, indirect and/or nosocomial transmisions of HSV are very rare and should be controlled by common-sense precautions.

Taking antiviral treatment during an episode of herpes labialis, would also decrease the viral shedding and thus decrease the chances of transmission to you baby.
