What Does A HBA1C Count Of 7.1 Indicate?

I am 32 years old and I have been taking glycoment 500 SR tablet (after breakfast & after dinner). Recently, when I checked HBA1C, it came out as 7.1. At about same time last year it was 9.8.
I had a LDL & kidney checks recently which turned out a s normal.
So, currently, my doctor has increased the dosage to Gycomet 1000mg in after dinner.
And also I am on diet taking sugar very very very less(may be once in 15 days) and also I will walk for 30 minutes (around 3 kms) every day.
My question is is the medicines I am taking are correct and will I be able to avoid medicines in future if I do a strict diet and walk (may be some kind of exercises) ?

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
You have got an improvement in HbA1c, and that is appreciable.
There is no harm in increasing Glycomet to 1 gm in night.
It will help in better blood sugar control.
Good thing about this drug is that it helps in increasing the insulin sensitivity of the body, helps in moderate weight loss and also controls the triglyceride levels giving you a better safety profile.
So, you can continue with this and also continue with your exercises.
At HbA1c of around 7, it won't be possible to achieve the target glycemic control just on exercise and diet. You would require medications.
I don't find any problems in your medications. You can continue with them and get your HbA1c repeated after 3 months and review with me.
If you have any further query, feel comfortable to ask me.
Stay Healthy.
