Brief Answer:
Itchy lesion in underarm

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that you are having an itchy lesion in your underarm.

With your history and description, I would consider the possibilities of a fungal infection ( Tinea corporis), Nummular eczema and Pityriasis versicolor.

For how many days have you had this problem?

Yes, i think it is ring worm but when I showed today in a pharma , they told it is daad in hindi which is ring worm or tinea curis. they gave me an ointment which is Beclomethasone Dipropionate, clotrimazole and Neomycin Cream. I just applied it in that part now and it is not itching at the moment. I will not be able to upload the photo now, sorry. but it is like a ring only with very small boils which licks water.

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome back.

It would have been better if you could upload a clinical picture.

However, based on your history alone, I will outline the treatment for the fungal infection or ringworm.

Please do not use the cream given by the pharmacist. Beclomethasone dipropionate is a steroid and it will not heal the fungal infection. Infact, it will initially suppress the itching and the redness because steroid has anti-inflammatory properties, but the fungus will continue to grow with the steroid application and will flare up as soon as you stop the cream.

I would suggest you to apply a cream containing 2 % Ketoconazole ( e.g- Nizral cream) or 1 % Terbinafine ( e.g- Terbest cream) twice a day for 3 weeks. Do not stop the cream even if the lesion disappears in a few days. Continue to apply for 3 weeks on the spot.

You could take an antihistamine tablet like 5 mg Levocetrizine at bedtime to prevent itching.

Do not share towels and other articles of personal hygiene as this could spread from one person to another.

Hope this helps you.

Wishing you good health,
Dr. Johny Chacko
