Question: Being 17 weeks pregnant, should I feel the baby move? I gained too much weight last month, but no gain in 3 weeks. How can I not worry?

Brief Answer:
A normal finding.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Feeling the baby's movements is known as 'Quickening' which usually presents around 18-20 weeks in a first time pregnancy.
If you are not feeling any movements now then there is no need to worry. It is absolutely normal.
You will be able to feel the baby moving around inside the uterus as it is active and healthy and denotes a healthy development of it's nervous and musculoskeletal system.
Regarding the weight gain you should not worry as long as your ultrasound scan tells you that the baby is growing quite normally.
That is the most reliable indicator of a healthy pregnancy.
The gain in weight may be variable. Usually in second trimester 5-8 pounds of weight gain is seen.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
