Question: I had a CT scan done due to belly pain the CT scan said impression accute appendicitis then a team of doctors and surgeons came in and didn't think it was my Appendix they kept me over night to watch and redo labs as first set of labs my white blood count was 15.7 the following day pain had went down tremendously and white blood count return to normal 9.1 then a doctor.comes in and said I'm.sorry you got the wrong DX in the emergency room but there is nothing wrong with your appendix my bowels has return to normal when in begining it was yellow and watery never had a fever no pain left with very little tenderness in left side area I even got up in the tub and jumped down and it caused no pain I still have a little tenderness I can bend my knees up and I do have a little stretchy feeling so my questions are is the impression what you have or what the radiologist thinks the problem is 2) could it have busted and the pain is no longer there

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate reports and history.
I can understand your concerns.
To answer your queries:
1) Is the impression what you have or what the radiologist thinks the problem is
Radiological findings/diagnosis has a role in final diagnosis but it is the overall clinical picture including your detailed history/symptoms, the signs the Doctor finds, the lab and other investigation reports that decides the overall final diagnosis. Hence although the report shows appendicitis due to radiological finding of diffuse thickening of appendix along with periappendiceal fat stranding the yellow watery diarrhea, no fever, early settling of WBC count to normal indicate that the overall picture is of gastroenteritis as mentioned on discharge paper. You had early return to normalcy too.
Appendix is a part of the intestines, hence it too can show the findings of inflammation that the CT had picked up.

Hence continue the treatment as advised and you should be fine.
If in doubt, the followup can be done by high resolution ultrasound about appendix if the symptoms persist or return.

2) could it have busted and the pain is no longer there:
Oh no, bust appendix gives severe symptoms of pain, inability to move even in bed, forget about knee bending and stooping around as this can not be done due to severe pain. There will be severe tenderness and a classical sin of rebound tenderness that makes one to curl in the bed. This can not be present.

Brief Answer:
Let us see the ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Let us see what the ultrasound shows and decide the further course of action that needs to be taken
The stage of recovery goes like this. The symptoms and signs that you have mentioned are due to inflamed intestines including the colon.
I hope you are on antibiotic and other supportive medicines.

Brief Answer:
How is the clinical presentation - symptoms and signs and ultrasound?

Detailed Answer:
This is a good news that infection looks under control.
What about the ultrasound report which is more important now.
Dizziness, feeling sick and clammy hands can very well be anxiety induced provided all other conditions are normal and well under control.
Waiting to see the ultrasound report.
How is the condition regarding loose stools, pain , nausea and the symptoms you had?

Also another question I don't feel myself maybe from being so worried and tiring myself out with panic and anxitey attacks but could it be infection from the appendix doing that ? Could I have the septic or what ever the infection is people can get ? My current temp is 98.4

Answered by Dr. T Chandrakant (20 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
no sepsis as per the reports

Detailed Answer:
Since your WBC and other blood tests are normal, there is no sepsis.

Is it a good sign that the stools have went back to normal ? And does tenderness in the back some mean anything ? Will the ultrasound finally rule out or rule in appendixsitise ? If the ultrasound is neg for appendixsitise then how does that explain the CT scan report ?

Answered by Dr. T Chandrakant (5 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
As discussed below.

Detailed Answer:
Certainly yes, stool going back to normal is a great thing.
Back tenderness can be due muscle spam and/or anxiety as the commonest reason unless proved otherwise.
Yes a good machine and good Sonologist can give a certain diagnosis related to appendicitis.
CT scan report is old now - how can we compare it with something new investigations other than to see progress/prognosis ?

If it were appendix from XXXXXXX 9th to now would you think it would have got worse by no or is that possible ? I have read online that sometimes pain will go away only to return after it bust

Brief Answer:
Let us get to the facts - which is most important for proper diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Anything is possible but the medical science is based on facts and hence as per the reports available as well as the pending Ultrasound along with clinical evaluation by your Surgeon can only tell us the facts.
By this time there would have been a lump formation if the appendix has to burst or if the inflammation would not have settled.
