Brief Answer:
Confused about HSV IGM

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You recently had blood work for HSV the IgG levels were negative for both HSV 1 and 2. This means you are not currently infected by either HSV 1-2. The HSV IGM combined is a real confusing test. It can not tell you the difference between infection with type 1 or 2 and can be a false positive from various other acute infections.. My recommendation is that at this time you do not have an active infection of HSV type 1 or 2. If you do develop symptoms of type 1 fever blisters then the IgG will be positive. If you have an outbreak of a genital herpes then it will show a positive IgG Type 2.

In my opinion the combination test should never be done because it is very unreliable and too confusing.
