Question : I went for a scan today and its says that endometrial cavity contains some irregular echogenic material consistent with retained product of conception

If you have recently had an abortion that means that part of the embryo is still present in your uterus, you need to see an obstetrician.

Read below.
Detailed Answer:
It can be waited for the product of the conception to be expelled naturally. In a good percentage of cases when abortion happens in the first trimester that is the case and intervention can be avoided. Misoprostol is a drug which is often used to help that process.
However that depends on the amount of time which has passed since the abortion. If that hasn't happened in a couple of weeks than the suggested evacuation should be done. Otherwise infections, continuing hemorrhage and adhesions can occur which can damage the functionality of your uterus and lead to fertility issues in the future.
Also if the abortion took place after 12 weeks then spontaneous elimination is unlikely and evacuation is recommended, you shouldn't wait.
I hope things work out for the best.
