Question: Hi I have a severe bleeding (thought it was my period) started a month ago; I went to see the Dr. and she performed a biopsy and sent me for ultrasound ( pelvical & transvaginal) and a sonohystergoram- results came back negative for malignancy and hyperplasia on the biopsy however the ultrasound results revealed a possible endometrial polyp and suspicious for cystic hyperplasia; Also a right ovarian simple cyst measuring 4x3x3 centimetres- I have been give the option to go for endometrial oblation or hysterectomy... I am 45 not sure what to do... your advise

Brief Answer:
Hysterectomy could be better!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what you are experiencing. I understand how concerning this can be. Ablation still keeps the uterus and other structures in place and may be reasons to worry about in future. Hysterectomy would take all these structures out and you would no longer have any possible recurrences. Also, you would not have to deal with the risk of cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries, etc, in future if a total hysterectomy is done.

In any case, either procedure would address the immediate problem. Looking further into the future, the risk and cost of hysterectomy seem a better investment than ablation at this time. In any case, the final decision depends on you.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Would there be a benefit of doing ablation and then see how it goes? Maybe decide hysterectomy later? I don't want to take hormones

also what do you think if the cyst? Should a removal of it be enough ? Or should I be removing the ovary ? I have been told it is simple and should not worry about it

Brief Answer:
Simple cysts need only monitoring!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

What you have said sounds a good plan. Getting ablation and deciding on that in future if the need arises. That is true and give you the chances in future to decide and not do so right now in a rush. As the treatment goes on, adjustments would be made accordingly and there is really no reason to get too worried at this time.

I would say, take the ablation and consider hysterectomy in future if results are not satisfactory.

I wish you well.
