What Does My Ultrasound Report Indicate About Health Of The Fetus?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Jul 2014
Question: I had an ultrasound two weeks ago at 20 weeks pg with twins...Baby A looked great, Baby B had dialated lateral ventricles at 1.06 and 1.07 and they could not see corpus callosum.

Had followup scan yesterday....lateral ventricles are now measuring 1.12 and 1.11. Is this a big jump? However, now they said that they believe they can see corpus callosum but everything is small because baby is on verge of IUGR...in the 11th percentile so the structures in the back of the brain are probably there but small...is this OK? Does the small brain structure and enlarged ventricles mean a bad outcome?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The difference in size is not very significant.
In fact, it is very trivial.
The visualization of corpus callosum is a good sign in every sense.
Could you please upload the said scans , that would give me a better idea.
IF the baby is having IUGR as a whole, yes smaller than normal structures could be due to overall symmetrical IUGR.
I would have to look at the scans to be more specific.
Dilated ventricles are a worry, the cut off is 10 mm, so you are borderline right now.
In conjunction with small brain structures, it could point towards a whole range of neurodevelopmental anomalies, again, conversely, could be associated with a neurologically normal baby if it is part of generalized IUGR.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.
