What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Nov 2016
Question: I had a Ultrasound guided drainage last Friday with scelorsing agent? How long does it take for the agent to work? I read the report and it indicated that I have significant debris and fibrotic tissues within the area...what does this mean? Can this cause nerve issues, since this is right in the area of nerves? Can this cause leg pains? Is there anything to worry about? What can be done to take care of the fibrotic tissues and debris? Should I go to physical therapy or something to assist with the breakdown? Should I be in antibiotics?

I just want to make sure I get all the questions answered, so I am able to go about my life and know that with confidence I have asked all the right questions. I know this is a lot of questions, but not asking will not make me feel better... and I want peace of mind and to feel better.

So, I wanted to know what should I be doing to assist with the debris and fibrotic tissues breakdown. Is there anything to worry about(lump: thinking that is the fibrotic tissue and debris)? How long does the agent take to heal or shrink? What kind of exercises can I do to loosen the tissue? Should compression be added? Would icing help it? Should I still ice?

I was having lymphatic fluid build up from postop from the lymph node removal and i had already gone to the suregon 6 times to drain it. So, he sent me to get the US guided drainage completed. The seclorising agent worked and all i have is the fibrotic tissue (hard bump).

Brief Answer:
What surgery was done?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would really appreciate if you could tell me some details.
I still dont know which area of the body you are talking about and what surgery was done and when. It would be very difficult for me to comment and it would be shooting in the dark at best if you want me to answer your queries with the restricted information you are giving me.
Please do let me know if you cant let me know the details.
In that case I would be unable to help you.
Regards,
Dr Rishi.

Brief Answer:
You have nothing to worry about.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
What was the diagnosis before the Surgery. Why did you undergo an Inguinal dissection?
I would believe that the Utrasound guided aspiration would have been done for a lymph collection or a Lymphocele.
Most scelrosing agents start working within minutes.
Debris & fibrotic tissue is what anyone would expect in any area after a surgery if you do an Ultrasound. So, nothing abnormal.
No nerve issues are expected as the sclerosant will not affect the nerves.
It should not cause any leg pains.
There is nothing else to worry about.
There is no need to do anything for the fibrotic tissue and debris they will get absorbed and organised in the surgical area.
No drugs or physical therapy or antibiotics are required post sclerotherapy.
Time to shrinking or healing would depend upon the size of the swelling before therapy and the amount of fluid drained. Usually four to six weeks.
Compression therapy can definitely help. No harm in using compression.
Exercises would not be of any help.
Icing is not required anymore and would not be of any help.
Take care and do let me know if there are other queries.

So I can start to workout again walking and doing light workouts? This will not affect it in anyway?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Rishi (9 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You can start workout if the wounds have healed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the answer.
I dont expect any problems with workouts or exercise. But I do hope that the surgical wound created for the lymph node dissection has healed. You should start workout once the wound has healed.
Only consideration would be to not bear weight for long periods of time.
You should use compression whenever working out and you should be fine.
Do not worry.
Take care and speedy recovery.

Thank you so much! You have really assisted with helping me stay calm. First feeling since my surgery. I will definitely be mor attentive to working properly and won't do anything with weights for a while.

Is itching common in the area of the lymph node ( where the stitching was). All the stitching came off. I recently shaved the area and not sure if that is why I itch... also my right side (hip) sore. I have been messaging it lately. Is that ok? Is it ok to go to a massage therapist yet?

Answered by Dr. Rishi (25 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Itching is good.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your response.
Itching is fairly normal in a healing wound, infact it is a good sign of healthy healing.
Massaging can be done but lightly, only mild pressure. You can to a massage therapist but get it done only lightly.
All the very best and happy recovery.
