What Does The CBCT Scan Report Indicate?
Question: My dentist report states based on the cbct scan that on one of my teeth I have calcified roots and some external resorption on the back side of the tooth. They can not do a root canal because of the calcified roots..I do not have pain from this tooth..every once in a while I have a little sensitivity..can I keep this tooth without it getting infected..will it eventually abcess. It is on tooth number 13 so it is right in the front..I do not want to lose my smile but scared to do an implant...is it dangerous to keep this tooth? How can I avoid other teeth from coming down with this? Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
As far as the calcified roots and external root resorption is concerned, The calcification can occur secondary to age. The external resorption can occur secondary to any infection in the root tip.
If the canal is completely calcified, then we cant do root canal treatment. If it is partially calcified, then we can try doing root canal treatment. So consult a good endodontist and take an opinion. Regarding external resorption, the cause has to be treated, means, if there is infection in the root tip, that has to be treated.
If the root canal treatment is not possible, then you can leave it like that without root canal treatment.
The chances of a calcified tooth getting infected is very less. If it gets infected, then get it removed and go for implants. Nothing to get scared to go for implants, it is simple procedure than Root canal treatment.
To avoid the other teeth from coming down the opposing teeth should be replaced(if it is missing), so that the other teeth will not come down or supraerupt.

I went to the best root canal specialist in my town ..he says that root canal can not be done because of the calcification and external resorption..can external resorption be slow moving..I am 56 years old can the tooth last very long being that it is dead ..so you are saying calcified tooth does not abcess like others so I am somewhat protected because it calcified..I do not want to get a bad infection..it does not hurt only sensitive sometimes..do I need to avoid biting on it.since it is weak can it fracture? Will it be hard to remove if it continues to have external resorption.. Thanks so much!!! I really appreciate you!!!

Considering your age and the condition of the tooth, its better to go for extraction. It is not difficult to remove the tooth, nothing to worry.
So plan for extraction and implants by consulting an implantologist or a oral maxillofacial surgeon.

Please a few more questions..I have a fairly new crown on that tooth 2years old will that help me save the tooth. Also can I put a bridge on that #13 tooth..it is right in the front will you see the bridge..I am still worried about doing an implant. I have a heart problem mitral valve prolapse..will that be a problem. Thanks again kind doctor!!!

The Crown which is present over the tooth will be waste if it is not root canal treated and when it has external resorption. Please upload the images of the CBCT so that I can clearly tell you what treatment you need exactly.
You can go for implant in the presence of cardiac problem if you have sufficient bone support. Even in the front teeth region also you can go for implants or bridge. If we replace the teeth with good shade, the replaced teeth can't be recognized.
