What Does The Widal Test Report Indicate?

Question: During Widal test it is found S typhi O as 1:80 and S typhi H as 1:80.

Paratyphi AH and BH is negative

Is typhoid confirmed by this

Have small headache and sore throat

Hello

S typhi O and H antibody titer value 1:80 may suggest positive widal test.This test is done for typhoid fever.
Cut-off value for positive result varies with laboratory.Some take cut -off value as 1 : 160.However,single value is of little clinical importance.

You need clinical correlation.Four fold increase in titration in follow up test is confirmatory for widal test.So,if clinically indicated you may need repeat test for increasing titer and you may need antibiotics based on findings.

What are the specific precautions to be followed.

Also can I do a repeat Widal test after 6 days. Will the value come down.

Hello

You should take medicines on time.If symptoms persists then repeat widal test can be done to see titration.If titration increases then injectable medicines like injection ceftriaxone 1 gm I.V twice daily can be prescribed.
