What Does The Skin Allergy Test Result Suggest?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Jun 2015
Question: I received the results of my allergy skin testing and I'm not sure how to read them on paper. I think there are things I tested positive for and that the Allergist I saw didn't mention to me. I want to double check them.

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

As the list is quite long, I shall only list those substances which were found to behave like allergens. But before doing so, I would like you to understand that these results show allergens to a certain degree. They are:

+Mild: When the reaction to the substance is mild, and may or may not cause a reaction. These substances can be taken, and tolerated but only when taken in small quantities. Some individuals do however experience slight irritation after consuming mildly-reactive allergens, and I would recommend you to try them only if you really wish to and if well tolerated, take them in controlled/small portions

+Moderate: These substances will show you signs of a reaction, even when taken in small-moderate quantities, but the reaction will not be so serious. They are better avoided, or taken in very small quantities

+Severe: Best to avoid completely

Now let me list the substances you reacted to and the degree for your better understanding:

1. Corn: Mild
2. Crab: Mild
3. Pistachio: Mild
4. Lobster: Mild
5. Coffee: Unclear as there are different values written on each side of its name. Please confirm with the centre that provided you the report, or try to think back on your experience with coffee to learn if you react to it or not
6. Hormodendrum: Moderate
7. Penicillinum: Mild
8. Mushrooms and green peas: Possibly mild or minimal
9. Animals (cats, dogs and horses): Mild
10. Mites: Mild
11. Mold: Moderate
12. Codeine: Mild
13. Mixed ragweed: Severe
14. Lamb's Quarter: Moderate-severe
15. Aspergillus mix: Moderate
16. Cephalosporin: Mild-moderate
17. Curvularia: Moderate
18. Hickory: Mild

It is in general best to avoid all the above listed allergens, but only the mild ones can be experimented with if you really cannot live without them. I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
