Question: I was getting fever very often in past two weeks. fever comes & goes. I had gone to my family physician. fever used to reduce after 2-3 days & I used to get fever again.

I again went to the doctor day before yesterday. he suspected Typhoid & told me to take an injection for three days. I started taking it day before yesterday & I should take it till day after tomorrow.

pls look at the attached images. I have attached doctor's prescription & clinical report of blood count & serology report.

pls suggest.. should I continue the injection suggested by the doctor

Brief Answer:
History can suggest typhoid but needs blood cultures and oral antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately. Based on the history you have shared, fever pattern and other symptoms does point to possibility of typhoid or enteric fever but needs to be confirmed further.

Your complete blood count is against enteric or typhoid fever as usually typhoid presents with low white cell counts and with this much raised white cell counts other workup like detailed throat and chest examination and urinalysis should have been done. Widal test is obsolete in the world and isn't reliable diagnostic criteria for typhoid. Blood and stool cultures should be taken instead.

Meanwhile oral antibiotics like ciprofloxacin or azithromycin may be started preliminary. Jumping to injectables at this level seems premature. Specially with no culture proofs. Meanhwile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be used for fever and symptomaticrelief. I would suggest you to have a second opinion by a medicine specialist or general physician.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
