Question: Hi doctor, my friend has 4.9 mm stone in left vesicoureteric junction. Consulted general doctor and he is saying that this has to be removed with an operation only. Can you provide a second opinion on this? I have attached the scan results with this.. Thank you..

Brief Answer:
No need for surgery at present.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can understand your concern.

The scan report is incomplete and only the last part is attached.
You've not written,if you've had any symptoms.
If this is the first time, you've had a stone problem.

The stone size isn't large and can be treated conservatively.
There's no need to have a surgical removal (endoscopic),just now.
You'll need to see an Urologist and get examined.
Do the following tests, before seeing him.
1. urine routine and culture.
2. blood routine,creatinine, uric acid,RBS,LFT and platelets.

Drink about twelve or fifteen glasses of fluids daily.
Alfa blockers are advised,to be taken daily at bedtime.
Potassium Magnesium Citrate with vitamin B6, is to be taken daily.
Other treatment can be advised, after seeing all the reports.

Wish you well.
