Question: I heard about what I think they called keratosis (with acid in front?) in reference to Type weight loss and a drug for Type II diabetes ( I do not have this but have not been to doc in a few years. Question is, did I hear the I hear potential counter indications correctly? and what are counter indications/potential health risks, if any? Also, I have lost a lot of weight in last 3 months most on purpose and some not. I am 55 have always been in reasonably good shape but have dropped from about 170 to 145 and notice sagging skin in arms (biceps) ad thighs. Is this a good or bad thing? And what if anything should I do about it? Thanks, C

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
Any unintentional weight loss should be investigated.
The first step should be a fasting blood sugar and a HbA1c. If the fasting blood sugar is above 7 and the HbA1c is 6.5% or more, you have diabetes.
Diabetes ketoacidosis is a medical emergency and is most likely to occur in Type 1 diabetes if no or inadequate insulin is taken. It may occur in Type 2 diabetes less often and in people who are on ketogenic diet with little carbohydrates in the food.
So checking for diabetes is simple and treating is also not very difficult.
If you do not have diabetes, it would be better if you see a doctor and have yourself examined and investigated.
