What Is The Age Limit For The Gardasil Vaccine Schedule?

Posted on Thu, 28 Jul 2016
Question: My new girlfriend has HPV exposure from a past relationship and I have not had any. Our question is Should I as a 51 year old get the HPV vaccine before we ever have intercourse. I don't see any indications for prevention in older men like myself but thought it might be worth a shot.

Brief Answer:
HPV in adults

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are wondering if an adult male should receive the HPV vaccine. The CDC only recommend that men and women up to the age of 26 can get the vaccine. The reason is that by that time a person will have been exposed to a number of HPV viruses and that any older would not be a benefit. The other reason is that there are no studies on giving the vaccine to older adults. So because there is no data we can not recommend vaccination.
