Question: Is the criteria for diagnosing mci so strict as to have everyone who scores low on a single memory test be diagnosed with mci? Or is doctor's interpretation to be included when diagnosing? The criteria seems so strict.

Brief Answer:
Opinion of the individual, observers and Doctor matters in MCI.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for being on HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) criteria are set to help the clinician in achieving the diagnosis.

These criteria are continuously object of refining and review, so, they could not be so strict, and , of course, the examining Doctor's opinion and interpretation should be included in the diagnosis.

In addition, one of the criteria states that: change in cognition recognized by the affected individual or observers.

So, it is not just a matter of scores.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
