Where Are The Sutures Placed After A Circumcision?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Oct 2014
Question: I can find over a thousand web pages saying the foreskin (will be ) or is stitched to the penis after a circumcision, but I have looked thousands of hours and can not find out WHY that is done ! WHY is that done ? Can it be done WITHOUT stitching it to my penis? Can it be done with stitches going ONLY through the shaft skin ? Why is it I can not find a doctor who will do my circumcision the way they do them in Japan, at the >>BASE of the penis ! ? I sent out 200 emails asking and only 10 doctors andwered, 8 of them wanted to know if I made that up and the other 2 said if they did it that way the shaft skin will die and fall off
Well, why don't they have that problem in Japan ?

Brief Answer:
Sutures need to be on shaft region, no where else

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The reason why we apply stitches is because the end of the foreskin that has been freshly incised is like an open wound, and so a small fold is made and sutures are applied between the open region of the foreskin and the shaft. This helps in preventing infections, and is done purely for two reasons:
-A more cosmetic effect
-Prevention of infections

If you wish to go ahead with circumcision without the sutures, then your doctor can oblige but you will be explained about a higher risk of infections and a longer healing time.

The sutures need to be applied between the freshly incised end of the foreskin and the shaft in order to form a fold and cover the exposed wound-like region; thus these sutures cannot be applied anywhere else.

As for the procedure applied in Japan, I am not aware of this and do not understand how sutures can be applied to the base of the penis. I have practised in 4 countries so far, and they all seem to be following the procedure I have discussed with you successfully and safely.

I hope you find my response helpful sir. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes.

my question is, can the end of the cut foreskin be folded over and the stitches go through that "lower fold" of skin and the "top" foreskin, only and not the shaft of the penis ? I would like me foreskin to be moveable like it is now
As for the way they do it in japan, go to google and put in
www.urologicalcare.com/pdf/cosmetic circumcisionissm.pdf when the page comes up look on the right hand side you will see a small box that will show two penis
click on it
While i was in the navy I was in charge of 28 men at an electronic instrument repair station and i went with three of my men when they had a circumcision done there, I have seen it done that way three times
thank you

Brief Answer:
I completely understand sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

Please feel free to write to me with how many ever follow up questions you have sir, please do not hesitate or request to ask me any queries. I am here to help you and clear all your doubts, for as long as you want and with any topic you have queries on.

Unfortunately, the link you provided did not open, but I went through the site myself and found the images and the technique employed. I have read about this procedure in an article here and completely understand what you wish for.

I have read about the cosmetic circumcision in detail, although I have not seen the procedure been conducted live. The main purpose of a circumcision is to prevent infections; improve comfort during sexual intercourse; prevent conditions like phimosis, paraphimosis, etc. Although studies show that all these reduce or are completely absent after a cosmetic circumcision in most cases, it still carries a slight chance of infections in comparison with a traditional circumcision.

So the result of the study proved that a cosmetic circumcision is a choice made by the individual patient himself choosing a appearance over a mild risk of developing infections. Thus the only situation in which a traditional circumcision is preferred/indicated over a cosmetic circumcision is when the indication for a circumcision is due to recurrent infections.

The only thing you would have to do sir is to find a surgeon who is acquainted with the cosmetic circumcision procedure to conduct it on you. Most surgeons do not experiment with their technique and approach, so you need to either find one who is ready to operate in this manner or one who is acquainted and experienced in conducting a cosmetic circumcision sir.

I hope you find my response helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me anytime sir, I am here to discuss things with you and explain them for you until you are completely satisfied and have enough information to clear all your doubts.

Best wishes sir.
