10 Month Old Diagnosed With Closure Of The Fontanel. Concerned About Cephalic Deformation. Head Is Cone Shaped
Our 10 month old was diagnosed with closure of the fontanel at his 6 mth checkup. He is currently being followed by the family physician for head measurements. She feels there is enough space for the brain to grow. We are concerned that he may have some type of cephalic deformation as his head is appears to be cone-shaped. He is reaching all his milestones. Should we consult with a paed or follow along with the GP?
consult both pediatrician and a neurologist or a paediatric-neurologistif available. They should asses by ct scan or Mri scan whether adequate space is there for further brain growth,if not even when milestones are normal,in future further brain growth might be hampered, in that case , in infantile stage only surgery may be performed , as bones are still soft in infant age, reshaping and remodelling of cranium or skull vault is easier, also cosmetically correction may be undertaken
