14 Year Old, Pain Under Rib Cage. Normal X Rays. How Long Should I Wait Before Taking More Tests?
my 14 year old daughter is having sharp pains under her rib cage on right side. every once in awhile it will hurt on left side. has been going on for almost 7 months now off and on. Took her to doctor and he said it was growing pains. he had her get xrays to rule out broken ribs. everything was fine there. how long do these growing pains last, and how much longer should i let this go on before i go back to have more tests ran
Hello and welcome to HCM, The main organ under ribs on right side is liver and on left side is spleen. In the absence of rib fracture or trauma, musculoskeletal pain is ruled out. Gastritis or indigestion is associated with pain in upper abdomen but the pain can localized to any site above the naval. Is the pain associated with other symptoms like regurgutation, water brash, acidity etc. If yes then this pain is due indigestion. If none of these symptoms are not present, then tests related to liver functions need to be done. Inflammation of liver can cause hepatitis and thus pain.
Consult your physician for prescription of further investigations and thus management.
