2 Month Old Having Blood In Stool. Normal WBC, RBC Levels. Bacteria In Blood. Stool Still Greenish. Reason?
hi my two months baby boy got a bit blood and green and slimy stool and passes about 4 times, then at night became yellow with slimy and a bit blood as well. then today, i had his stool to be check in laboratory RBC , WBC were normal, Bacteria: moderate and yeast cells: few which the pedia says its normal also. the pedia gave my son erceflora to take once a day for five days. I also shown my son s last diaper with his stool and she say my son dont have diarhea because his stool is not watery.. i wonder and worried why my son still having same kind of stool? please advice Doc. thanks a lot.. anne

Green and slimy stools with blood suggests a gut infection.
Blood in stools is usually seen in bacterial infections.
In dysentery, stools need not be watery. But they are usually associated with fever, poor feeding, pain in abdomen that presents as crying episodes in infants. In such a case, your kid might need antibiotics.
Erceflora is a probiotic that will help in reducing the frequency and duration of loose stools and more helpful in viral diarrhea.
Just keep a watch on feeding habits and activity of your kid. If you are breast feeding him, continue to breast feed him. Do not give him cow`s milk below 1 year of age. If he is on formula and continues to purge, he might need temporary cessation of normal formula.
You may visit the doctor again or repeat the stool examination if you are sure what you saw is blood in stools.
For viral diarrhea, adequate fluids and probiotics are sufficient.
For bacterial dysentery, antibiotics will be needed.
