2 Year Old Having Diarrhea, Vomiting And Abdominal Pain. Stool Analysis Done, Waiting For Culture Results. What Is The Cure?
Hello. My daughter is 2 years and 9 months old. She's been having diarrhea x 3 days and vomiting x 2 days. Also complain of abdominal pain before bowel movements. Stool analysis show rbc and pus cell 0-2, everything else is negative. Culture is not ready. What should I give her until the culture results are in? she has had another episode of diarrhea and vomiting about 2 weeks ago,.
You have mentioned that your daughter has had diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Stool has showed pus cells 0-2. Culture is still pending.
I would like to know if the frequency of her stools and vomiting is decreasing or increasing and also the color of her vomit. Has she been able to keep any fluids down by mouth without vomiting.
Most likely with your description, your child is probably suffering from viral gastroenteritis. She may need antispasmodics if her abdominal pain is not controlled by acetaminophen or tylenol. You need to encourage her to drink oral rehydration solution or pedialyte small sips frequently to keep her hydrated. If she is vomiting continuously, she will need medicine for the same from her pediatrician.
I would suggest you to encourage her to drink ORS/pedialyte and if unable to keep it down and if she has decreasing urine output, to take her to her doctor soon to rule out dehydration.
