22 Month Baby, Diaper Rash, Spreading. Prescribed Steroid Plus Anti Fungal Cream. What Should Be Done?

My grandson, aged 22 months, has a very severe diaper rash. He often gets a rash when teething but this time is the worst. Dr. prescribed a steroid plus anti fungal cream on Wed eve, but 2 days later and the rash appears to be spreading upwards from the anal area to his penis. Does this mean the cream is not working ? Should his diet be altered until it is fully cleared up ? ie, should we cut out yeasts, yogurts and baby Liga biscuits.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
You need not cut yeas or yogurts.

Try with some other options of steroid with antifungal cream for at least 2 weeks.
Avoid using diaper for few weeks. Washing or wiping of the bottom should be from front to back not from back to front. If the person or mother who washes the baby had yeast infections over nail bed, web space of finger or genitals, It has to be corrected at first.
Then you grand son will be alright.

I can understand your concern.

Diet has no relationship with the problem. Keep the area exposed to air. keep it dry. If usage of diaper is unavoidable change it as soon as possible. Do not use excess soap in that area. Keep the area moisture free. Continue to use antifungal creams as advised by your doctor.
