3 Year Old Kid, Cough And Congestion On Chest When Exposed To Ac. Had Pneumonia At 3 Months. Suggestions?
Sir my son had pneumonia when he was 3 months old it was not severe and he got over it in a week he was given the usual intravenous antibiotics
at present he is three years old. He goes to an air conditioned school. this makes him sick as he develops cough and congestion of the chest he even vomits the mucus
Hi, Thanks for writing in. One in four children suffer from respiratory problems in India. This is due to the every day rise in pollution and smoke. Your child needs to be evaluated by a pediatrician for respiratory tractallergy and infections. A chest X ray may be necessary. Details of his problem, mucus vomiting must also be noted, along with any fever or loss of weight. He may also be seen by a pulmonologist if your pediatrician feels necessary.
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern. Cough could be because of various causes like infection, allergy etc.
Since you are mentioning that cough occurs on exposure to cold air of air conditioning it could be because of allergy. Cold air can cause bronchoconstriction. Examination by your doctor can confirm the diagnosis. Bronchodilators can help in relieving the bronchoconstriction. Preventor therapy with steroid inhalation can be useful to prevent further attacks. If cough is because of infections antibiotics may be required.
