3 Year Old With Persisting Fever. X-ray Report Says Mild Hilar Accentuation. What Does It Mean?
my 3 years child are suffering from fever from last three days. Doctor suggested chest x-ray. X - report Findings are as follows.
1.Lung fields reveal no active parenchymal lesion
2.Mild hilar accentuation
3.C-T ratio is within normal limit
4.C-P angles are clear
5.Hemi-diaphragms maintains normal contour
6.Bony thorax & soft tissues do not reveal any obvious abnormality
My question is what is meant by "Mild hilar accentuation"
Hilum is a part of the lung where the blood vessels enter and exit the lung part.
Hilar accentuation means prominence of this part on X ray. It usually is seen in some conditions like bronchitis and lower respiratory tract infection.
But this finding should be correlated by the treating doctor with the child complaints so that he can say whether it is significant or not.
And her fever has to be evaluated further if it is not subsided.
Therefore I advise you to consult pediatrician again for correlation and re examination of the child.

3 Year Old With Persisting Fever. X-ray Report Says Mild Hilar Accentuation. What Does It Mean?
Hi, Thank you for your query. Mild hilar accentuation means that the hilar markings are more prominent. They do not have much significance if all the other findings are normal. I would suggest that let the doctor interpret the x-ray in context with the problems of the child. I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction. Wishing your child all the best.
