4 Month Baby, Have Teething Symptoms. Prescribed Ofloxacin Dispersible, Vizylac Dnt. Are These Safe For An Infant?

Hello Doc,
My kid is just 4 months old and and has shown some teething symptoms.
After consultation today doctor has prescribed following:
Ofloxacin Dispersible (100 Mg) - 1/2 tablet, twice a day.
Vizylac DNT - 1/2 tablet, twice a day.
Just wanted to have a second opinion on the above as these tablets seems very hard for an infant.

Sincere Regards,
Chandan Sinha

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Chandan sinha,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Ofloxacin is not required for a baby with teething.

Antibiotics are required if the baby is having loose stools associated with blood and mucus. In such a scenario we call it as dysentery. Otherwise I do not understand why antibiotics are prescribed for your infant.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
