4 Month Baby, Suffering From Seizures, Fever. Retarded Mental Growth. Curable? Treatment?

My male baby is 4 months old. He suffered hypoglycemic siezure on 10th day of birth as he was kept in ICU separated from mother. His mother is unable for breast feeding. The boy again suffered from fevere and was attacked by several siezures during 2nd month, which we could not recognise. Now his physical and mental growth appears retarded. what shall I do ? Is it curable ?

Thanks for your query here.

You've not mentioned if he still continues to have seizures? Did he have any investigation in form of EEG/MRI Brain/blood tests etc to find out the cause?

As a Pediatrician, my approach in your case would be:
1. To examine the child thoroughly and assess his development, measure his head circumference, take detailed history
2. Based on my assessment and his current nutritional status, he would need further investigations. Blood tests, EEG (to measure electric activity of the brain and confirm presence or absence of ongoing seizures) and CT/MRI Brain to identify the cause.
3. He may need to be seen by Neurologist, have eyes/hearing tested to see whether they are affected as well or not along with growth retardation

4. Based on the results of the investigations, it would be clear what your child is suffering from. Only them, we would be able to comment further line of treatment and whether it is curable or not.

Please do revert back once investigations are done and I would be happy to guide you further.
