5 Month Old Baby Has A Soft Spot On Chin, Suddenly Wakes Up From Sleep. Should I Worry ?

Hi. I have a 5 month old baby. Yesterday I was carrying him under my chin burping him, he had just ate. While burping him he lifted his head and rubbed his soft spot on my chin. I backed my head when I felt it and immediately looked at him. He looked fine and was looking back at me. I would constantly check up on him, calling out his name, having him follow my finger with his eyes and making sure he was ok. His soft spot felt low and soft. Yesterday there were times that I would call out to him and he wouldn't look back or his sight would daze off somewhere while following my finger. That was at around 5. He went to sleep at about 6:30 until today at 4:30 (he usually sleeps all night with no problem). Today he ate fine, he has been sleeping fine, not too much and he is following me with his eyes. However, if I call him he doesn't look at me sometimes. He usually gets startled in his sleep with a loud noise and he hasn't been doing so today as often nor look back at me or anywhere else when calling him. He could just be bored and I could be paranoid but I am worried.

Hello Good Evening,

I think you should not worry a lot, the child is normal and that was not a serious injury due to rubbing of your chin to his head.

Your chin most probably hit at anterior fontanelle region of his head, and you should aware that why you feel low and soft there.

The anterior fontanelle is placed at the junction of the sagittal suture, coronal suture, and frontal suture; it is lozenge-shaped, and measures about 4 cm in its antero-posterior and 2.5 cm in its transverse diameter.
The fontanelle allows the skull to deform during birth to ease its passage through the birth canal and for expansion of the brain after birth.
This anterior fontanelle is not completely closed until about the middle of the second year.

So this was present since birth, but you noticed it after that event, so be relax, if nothing deterioration occurs in his health.

Regards.
