5 Months Old Crying Excessively For 2 Hrs, Not Taking Feed. Slept After Colimex. How Long Will It Work ?

Hi my son is 5 months old and weight is 7.3 kgs. He has been crying excessively for 2 hrs and not taking the feed frm mother. We gave Colimex drops 1ml. He slept immediately. how long it will work. Will it release gas from his tummy. are there any side effects. mother has eaten potatoes and some spicy food. is it the cause for gas.

Hi

Action of colimex usually lasts for 4 to 6 hrs.

Usually problems due to colic- come down by 3 months of age when intestine of the baby matures.

To reduce problems related to colic- you must burp him after each feed. Also while giving a routine massage, do massage the tummy too.

You may try to keep a warm towel on his tummy when he cries.

How ever, excessive cry can happen due to many other causes like pain anywhere- like ear ache, pain while passing urine, stools/ insect bite/ nose block etc and have to be treated accordingly.
He may refuse feeds due to some lesion like a thrush in his mouth.

Good that he settled with colimex. If persistent, do see your doctor.
Though its not well proven that diet in the mother causes colic in children, its better to avoid spicy food in the mother.
