Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
5 Week Old Child, Pain After Being Breastfed. Causes For Condition?
Our 5 week old baby has waves of pain after breastmilk feedings. You can literally see it come over her. The waves usually last 20 seconds t a minute, and repeat every inute or 2. It can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hrs. Initially this was just in the day time, but it has moved to night as well. Have paralysis by analysis from over reading. Any ideas?
May be it is because of colic pain, (Pain in Abdomen)
After each feeding Burping ( For removal of swallowed air holding of baby erect over mothers shoulder or making him sit in mother lap and then patting or rubbing his back so that he eructates the swallowed air) Failure to do so may cause regurgitation, vomiting, and even abdominal pain/ colic pain.
I would advice:
1. watch for weight , she should be gaining 200mg in 4 week
2. For colic pain you have to consult with your pediatrician, after physical examination he will
proscribe appropriate antispasmodic drop.
3. Keep baby warm.
4. Exclusively breast feeding,
5. You should get her evaluated once for her complaint to get her examined physically by a
pediatrician.
Thanks
