8 Year Old Started Taking Vyvanse. Involuntary Tongue Movements. Stop Medication?

My 8-year-old son took Vyvance for the first time today and now he has involuntary tongue movements. Is this considered a tic and if so, should I discontinue until I am able to reach his Psychiatrist on Tuesday? It also seems to have sped up his thinking rather than slowing it down. He paces while he is telling one story after another.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there !

Vyvanse, which is an advanced molecule of amphetamine, can have a lot of side effects. The involuntary tongue movements may not necessarily be related to the medication. I also believe that stopping the medication will not relieve your symptoms. It takes a while to adjust to your medication. I also think that you should continue to take the medications till you visit with the psychiatrist.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!

My 8 year old son started taking Vyvanse yesterday (First dose). I received an e-mail from the teachers during the day saying he has his mouth open and he was uncontrollably moving his tongue from left to right rapidly. Most definitely a side effect of the medication.
