81 Years Old , Taking Omeprazole. Has Stomach Problems. Had Been Taking Citalopram. Related?

My husband who is 81 years old has been taking both citalopram and omeprazole for many years. The VA has taken him off the citalopram approx. a month and a half ago because of the interactions between the two drugs. He was taking 10mgs daily of citalopram and then a half of that for a few weeks then eventually went off that medication. He is having stomach problems, doesn't often feel well, and sometimes gets anxious. Last night he woke up in the middle of the night shaking and had a bad pain in his stomach. It subsided within 20 minute period and he was able to go back to sleep. We thought that might have been caused by dehydration as after he drank some water his pain subsided. My question is "Is it normal for these symtoms to occur after long useage of citalopram?

Greetings !

Welcome to the site.

Well it is unlikely that his stomach upset/pain is related to citalopram because a lot of time has elapsed since he has come off citalopram so this symptom that occurred which also subsided within 20 minutes ( it would not have subsided had it been a result of citalopram) seems to be an independent condition which needs to be evaluated by his doctor provided if it repeats, otherwise it should be left alone as a one off case of dyspepsia (indigestion).

I hope this helps.

Wish you all the best.

Regards..
