A 12 Year Old Athletic, Bright And Active, Daydreams, Has No Interest In School Work. What To Do ?

my 12 year old athletic, bright son has a new apathy for everything under the sun...the 6th grade class trip, basketball practice, having company, doing small household chores, showering....you name it, he doesn t want to do it. He has a good appetite , friends, sleeps 9-10 hours a night, but wants to do virtually nothing. His teacher says he daydreams and complains about school work being boring - no matter what the subject. What should we do?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

You will have to discuss with him in detail about the importance of studies etc. It is normal for children in that age group to behave like that. Please counsel him and discuss with him in detail.

If there is no improvement a psychiatrist help may be required.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
