Accidently Took Higher Dose Of Acetaminophen. Anything To Worry?
I accidentally took 5,000mg of acetaminophen today. Not all at once, it was throughout the day. I forgot I had taken an early dose this A.M. I usually take anywhere between 3,000mg-4,000mg each day. I spoke to a pharmacist earlier, they said I should be fine & to skip a dose tomorrow. Will this cause any harm to my body?
High doses of acetaminophen (5gm) may lead to acute liver damage and acidity. Damage differ person to person as extent of damage depend on nutrition and existing liver function test.
You need to get examined, investigated for liver function and other tests. Your vitals should be monitored. It is better to seek treatment from physician, preferably after getting admitted (as condition may be severe). You may require gastric lavage and treatment with acetyl cysteine. So seek treatment earliest as hour is important.
Wish you good health and all the best.
