After A Strenuous Week Of Sailing, Left Leg Suddenly Gave Out. What Could Be The Cause ?

After a strenuous week of sailing the Kalmar Nyckel, Delaware's tall ship, I was walking briskly to the P-town ferry when my left leg gave out from under me. I slowed my pace and gingerly continued. I'm fairly athletic, just passed a climbing test for the tall ship, 61 years old, 5' 3", 128 pounds, and exercise at least once a day.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

As per the description, you could have suffered a SOFT TISSUE STRAIN propably a pulled muscle.

Management for this condition is as follows -
* Rest to the injured part and dont involve in activities which puts additional strain on the injured tissues.
* Ice packing should be applied for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours.
* Analgesic & anti inflammatory medications

If your symptoms are not improving , then consult your treating physician and follow his advice.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
