After How Long Will A HIV Test Becomes Positive?

Hi doctor

I had protected sex with a commercial sex worker in china. On July 28. There are no symptoms of hiv except had some broncidal and 1 or 2 times ulcers in mouth.

I tested hiv pcr test and western blot test after 2 and 4 months of exposure and both were negative .

What do you think my chances of infection are ?? An do I need to do any further test

The chances of having HIV with negative tests after 4 months are low. It usually becomes positive within 3 months and even earlier with the PCR test. I would recommend having the Western blot or other antibody test after 6 months just to be certain. If you continue to have sex with commercial sex workers or multiple partners, you do increase your risk, and should be checked for HIV every year.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
