Am A Smoker. X-ray Shows Nodule In The Lung. Have Short Of Breath. No Cute Cardiopulmonary Disease. Problem?
Hi, I am a 49 year old female, 5'6", 153 lbs. and a smoker. I had a chest X-ray as a follow up from years previous where a nodule was found on a lung from a CAT scan. Have been a little short of breath and some chest discomfort. X-ray reads no acute cardiopulmonary disease seen but cardiac silhouette is enlarged, should I be concerned about the later? My mother passed away at 64 from a massive heart attack. Thank you!
Enlarged cardiac silhouette means cardiac shadow is enlarged in X-rays. Its enlargement indicates there is cardiomegaly in transverse diameter. Cardiac diameter is increased in many conditions like anemia ,heart disease, metabolic disorders ,hypertension etc.. Your cause may be due to hypertension, though you didn't mentioned about hypertension. Don't worry about that. Pulmonary nodule needs follow up.
