Am Type II Diabetic. Was Able To Lose With Diet And Exercise. Now Not Able To Exercise. Put Back My Weight. Best Diet Plan?

My name is Lorell. I am a type II diabetic for about 30 years and was 295 pounds at one time and then about 4 years ago was able to lose with diet and exercise. Now with my current role in health care I work until 7pm and find no time to exercise and also not eating during the day and eating in the evening and I have put back on 309 pounds.
Can you tell me what the best diet plan for me would be?

Hi Lorell! Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM.

I am glad that you want to take an active role in your health. Obesity really poses serious risks especially to diabetics. This is why it is very important for diabetics to maintain their ideal body weights.

With regards to your question, there is really no single ideal diet other than eating a balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. I recognize that due to the demands of your job, eating regularly and on time can be a challenge. But this may actually be the cause of your weight gain - going hungry during the day and eating too much at night. I would suggest that you try and break this practice. Prepare a small salad or a healthy sandwich that you can bring for lunch. You can also bring some pieces of fruit or nuts as snacks. This way you have the energy and sustenance to go on during your shift and you won't be too hungry and stuff yourself during dinner.

My second piece of advise is to exercise. Remember that our body's energy balance is determined not only by the nutrients you put in but also by the physical activity you exert. Exercise and diet should ALWAYS go hand in hand. My suggestion would be to try and do 15-30mins of exercise before going to work so that you are still full of energy. You'll also feel fresh and energized at work.

Lastly, don't forget to see your endocrinologist/diabetologist so that your diabetes is controlled and managed properly. This is really a lifestyle disease that only you can control with the proper diet, exercise and medications as necessary.

I hope I answered your question. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask me (http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-rene-gerard-cruz-galera-jr/66134).

Hello Lorell, thanks for using HCM,
Best strategies for you would be :1)Plan your meals in advance.2) eat small meal every two hourly instead of having big meals with long time interval.3)try to eat fresh, wholesome food instead of processed food.4)look up the calories of food before you eat them.5)keep track of everything you eat and drink.5)exercise at least 30 min a day on most days of week(start with 10 min if you are sedentary now.5)exercise has very good effect on glucose uptake of your body cells.it helps you stabilise blood sugar.
Hope this will help you.
All the best..
