Any Effect On Baby With Sub Clinical Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy?

Hi I would really appreciate a second opinion regarding my recent thyroid blood results. I am now 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant and my thyroid function tests were as follows: Free T4 14.2 pmol/L and my TSH was raised at 5.5mU/L This was classed as Subclinical hypothyroidism. (I have no health conditions and all my other bloods were normal). I have been told that these results are nothing to worry about as my T4 result was normal. I am worried that my baby won't be getting enough thyroxine? Should I be taking medication with this level of TSH? Thanks for your help

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
Regarding your hormonal result i would suggest to start the treatment with levothyroxine because during pregnancy the TSH level should be kept strictly under control.
The recommended values for the first trimester are 0.1-2.5mU/ml, so the value 5.5 mU/ml is considered high.
I would recommend also to check the AntiTpo antiboides and if they are positive you should monitor the TSH every 4 weeks during pregnancy.
The dose of levothyroxine should be adjusted after every hormonal check, if it is necessary.
Hope the information is helpful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
