Are Antihistamines Advisable For Mild GERD And Outbreak Of Hives?
two weeks ago, I had a severe attach of GERD, never had it before. I am 63. 4 days later I had mild gerd and severe hives. I got decadron shot then 6 days of prednisone 60mg, 50, 40 etc. 5 days ago I had severe gerd. other days it has been very mild, but still noticeable . I m on my 9th dose of omeprezole 40mg. still mild gerd, but I still get hives attacks...Allegra will reduce it after 3-5 hours. Should I take an H2-antihistimine instead. I have no health problem, it s not my heart. This GERD/Hives just hit me over the past two weeks...never had a problem with either
The GERD symptoms can be related to the use of steroids. I suggest using antihistamines such as Cetirizine 10 mg instead of steroids. I also suggest to continue using Omeprazole 40 mg daily in the morning before breakfast. I also suggest using Maalox three times a day. I recommend to avoid food that can trigger the symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
