Are Congestal And Flurest Safe Medicines?

Hi Doc there are 2 medications I usually get from Egypt during flu season one is called CONGESTAL and the other FLUREST, they seem to work well when me or other members of the household get the flu but now i ve been told by a co-worker that they are dangerous and have been banned in parts of the world. Can you let me know if they are dangerous to my familys health. Thanks Anne

Hello,

Congestal is a combination of medication. It contains Chlorpheniramine, Pseudoephedrine, Paracetamol, Dextromethorphan. All the medications have side effects, all patients are unique. Not all patients are affected by side effects. It may be banned in some parts of the world. If you are reluctant than do not take the medication. You can take any other medicine after consultation with your treating doctor.

Flurest contains caffeine, paracetamol, chlorpheniramine, paracetamol, Pseudoephedrine. It has side effects which may affect some patients while others may not be affected. Never take medications if you doubt it. Ask your treating doctor about the side effects.

Medications often interact with other medicines you might be taking so always keep your doctor informed about your medications and also about your addictions (alcohol/drug abuse, etc). Stay away from addictions when you are being treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
