Are Oxycodone And Prednisone Advisable For A Swollen Throat And Pus On The Tonsils?

My daughter was diagnosed with mono last friday. Swallowing was so painful that she actually carried a cup from home to spit her saliva in. UPon examination her throat was so very swollen and huge white pus on her tonsils/or tonsil. Doc gave her oxycodone for the pain and prednisone right there in his office and ran the blood tests on her. When I asked her doc about when she would have to go back in next for blood work he said that that wouldn t be necessary.

Hi,

Well, if already she is diagnosed then clinical examination can be sufficient to follow up her recovery.

So you can continue with the medicines given to her but along with it you should also discuss with your doctor and if needed a course of antibiotics can be advised to avoid secondary bacterial infection.

Along with it doing warm saline gargles and sucking cepacol lozenges can be helpful.

Make her eat soft and semi-solid foods and drink plenty of lukewarm water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
