Are Tylenol, Codeine And Ativan Advisable For Person With Addictive Personality?

I have a patient with an addictive personality. She is taking Tylenol w/codeine, 3x/day, tegretol, ativan, brintellix, valtrex, hydrochorothiazide, isometheptene, and amlodipine besylate. I am an LPC in a Primary Care Clinic, trying to help patients with behavioral changes. This patient has out-of-control spending, partying, and drinking.

Hello,

Your patient is having multiple psychiatric issues underlying with hypertension and co morbid conditions. From the drugs mentioned above, two most concern are codeine and Ativan which can make her more and more dependent and addictive to the molecule over a long period of time.

She requires intensive evaluation with an expert Psychiatrist and dose adjustment of current medications, addition of certain newer molecules which will help to control her manic episodes with out of control spending, partying and drinking.
