Are Antibiotics Not Needed After Surgery To Remove Adenoids?

My daughter is 7. She had her adenoids removed on Wednesday. Was not given any antibiotics. Is this normal after surgical procedure? Also, she is very itchy. Had very weird stinging sensations all over her back lasted for 2 hours this evening. Uncontrollable. How do I help her?

Hello and thank you for your question. In healthy people antibiotics are not really needed after most surgeries. I am not sure what the stinging sensation would be from (perhaps side effect of antibiotics?) but you could try some cool compresses on her back. Take her to the doctor if this sensation is not resolving soon.
