Are Elevated Lipase Levels A Matter Of Concern?

I went to the ER on Friday night with back pain and r side front pain. my lipase level was 2191. They did a cat scan with contrast. They discharged me told me I have pancreatitis and only drink liquid for the next 3 days. So on Monday I called my PCP and he sent me for another blood test and this time is was 1,981. On Tuesday he saw me in his office and said to repeat the test today Wednesday it was 5,200. He told me to go to the hospital and be admitted. So i went they were waiting for me. Then they called the Gastro doctor and they gave me a bag of juice and repeated the cat scan with contrast. It showed all ok again so now they discharged me and I am to see the gastro doctor tomorrow morning. Many years ago My gallbladder erupted and the stones went into my pancreas and took them a week before they could do exploratory surgery and remove my gallbladder. I do not drink. Should I be concerned with the level so high? No one is giving me any answers. I am not eating only trying to drink. They gave me deluded pain medication to take. I am not throwing up just feeling like muscle spasms in the front of stomach and pain from time to time. What type of questions should I be asking? I am not getting anywhere. Thank you Dale

Hi,

As you explain the history it might be pancreatitis. However, it would be better for you to be hospitalized and they should monitor closely your situation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
