Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Fever And Severe Neck Pain In Children A Cause For Concern?
Hello Dr, My son has adenoid and tonsil surgery on 12/7. He has been having stuffy nose and bad cough since the time we saw him in recovery. He also has fever inspite of round the clock Tylenol/Mortrin every 3 hours. His neck pain has gotten worse too to the point that he would not lift up even for drinking water. His PCP found out from his blood work that he has some kind of infection with elevated blood cells. He is on antibiotics now (Amox-Cav). Should we be worried about pneumonia? or do any additional tests? Please advise.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I am a pediatrician and am happy to help you. When did his neck pain begin? What did his PCP say about your son's neck pain? Pneumonia can cause neck pain, but so can meningitis. I am concerned that his neck pain has gotten worse. Since meningitis and pneumonia can be fatal, I urge you take him for medical evaluation now! Immediately!
I hope that I have convinced you that this is very serious and I hope your son gets well.
Please come back.
