Are Fever And Vomiting Normal After Taking Akurit 4 For TB?

hi doc, I have been prescribed for Akurit 4 for TB. I have been taking 3 tablets in the morning in empty stomach (from last 4 days) but having vomitting and fever upto 101+. please advise is this vommiting and fever is common. Also would like to know any speacial changes do I need to make in my diet?

Hi,

Yes, fever and vomiting are common after taking Akurit-4. Fever is an important initially occurring side effect of rifampicin (one of the four drugs) present in Akurit-4. It usually resolves by the second week of starting the treatment. However other causes of fever should be determined if it persists beyond this period.

Vomiting is also an important side effect of Akurit-4 which usually occurs if the tablet is taken on an empty stomach. This can be prevented by taking the tablet after meals. However, other causes of nausea and vomiting should be detected and treated accordingly. Take healthy balanced and nutritious diet, like fresh fruits, meat, poultry, fish, etc.
