Are Irregular Periods And Missing A Period For More Than Six Months, Symptoms Of Any Underlying Disease?
Hi! I m an 18 year old girl, and I ve had my period for 5 years. My periods were always irregular, but I never went more than 3 months without a period. My last two cycles however, have lasted almost 300 days each, meaning that I ve only had one period in the last year. I m not sexually active, so I m not pregnant, I haven t been under unusual stress, and I don t think I m an abnormal weight (5 3 , 102 lbs). Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it? I ve heard it s unhealthy to go without a period.
I am happy to know that your BMI is normal. Yes, it is not normal to go without period for this long at this age. There are several reasons for it. At your age the commonest cause is Polycystic ovarian disease. Other causes are hormonal imbalance of ovary, thyroid and pituitary gland. Tuberculosis, severe diabetes and kidney disease can also cause such irregularities. Therefore, please consult a gynecologist hormone tests and ultrasound of uterus and ovaries. This helps in guiding the management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
